The Country You Deserve

Tom Tomorrow at This Modern World sums up this black day nicely.
those of you who "don't agree with Bush on social issues," but voted for him because you thought Kerry would somehow not be serious about the war, or maybe because you'll do a little bit better on your taxes under Bush--I'm afraid you may get the country you deserve, a country in which conservative fundamentalist Christians are calling the shots on abortion and civil liberties and gay rights and a lot of other things you probably care about, or at least should. But hey, you made your bargain. It's just too bad the rest of us--the 48% as of this writing, who voted for another, very different America--have to get dragged down with you.

I'm not a fundamentalist Christian; I'm an ATHEIST. And I think the ten commandments (certainly starting with V) are a hell of a lot better way to run one's life than what the multicultural freaks offer up. The fundamentalist Christians aren't running around blowing up New York, trying to get their hands on a nuclear weapon. Abortion is nasty, but I'm with Row vs. Wade, NOT with the late-term vacuum the baby's brains FREAKS. Also, did you notice that it wasn't the right wing that voted down gay marriage in those states (someting I have no opinion on) -- it was something like 70%-90% majorities? Always bashing corporations, the organizations that are the source of almost all wealth, including government funds, is some kind of bizarre pathology. Lastly, constantly working to set criminals free while taking away my only means of defense is not civil rights; it infringes upon MY civil rights. The ACLU is full of shit. Like most "liberal" causes, I'm sure they started off well-intentioned, and quickly went into fucking loony-land. If all the "liberals" could only keep their feet on the ground, they wouldn't get completely CREAMED in the elections, and might even do some good for the country. This whole election was a humiliating loss for the Democrats, for which they only have themselves to blame, not John Kerry's looks. Wake the fuck up and get real!

Wow, look who's petulant now. And you're on the winning side!

Sorry about your atheism. I hope you don't mind Creationism taught in this country's schools. Oh, I know, you'll home school, nevermind. And I'm glad you'll have guns to protect you (oh, wait, you'd have had them ANYWAY, NOBODY ever even TALKED about prying your guns out of your fingers, except Republican puppeteers working via NRA boogeymen). Anyway, I hope those guns are helpful in protecting you from car bombs or plane bombs or shoe bombs or whatever the fuck the thousands of militant kooks in the Middle East come up with to avenge the 100,000 killed in a sham unilateral war built on lies, deception and oil.

Starting off well-intentioned, and quickly going into fucking loony-land, indeed.

i have a problem with your comments, rightwinger2. just what is wrong with the fourth commandment:"honor thy father and thy mother, that it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth."

a fine commandment by any measure.

i can see your difficulties with I-III.

this discrepancy invalidates your entire argument and personal belief system. i am, hereby, convinced and convicted (by your flawed assertions) to vote democrat for the rest of my life.

on the other hand, you may have a point or two hiding in there amidst your slanderous remark about number IV.

I find it interesting that the Anti-Gay rights people who want a constitutional amendment to restrict an individual freedom(yeah, I know, it isn't a constitutionally granted freedom) are politically aligned with the NRA who wants desperately to protect an individual freedom. Also, it's too bad that the pro gun rights people aren't aligned with the abortion people, then we could have great slogans like, "You can have my gun when you pry it from my cold, dead uterus".

Maybe pro-abortion + pro-gun == novel and sporting new procedures.

That theme has possibilities. Assisted dying + pro-gun. Alzheimer's + pro-gun. Etc.

Maybe there's hope for universal "health care" after all.

It's another way to take care of those fags that want to get married, too! And stupid poor kids who can't read!

I see it now! It's the moment of my conversion -- GUN SOLVES ALL! Amen! Hallelujah!

Yikes - I was getting a little shrill (just a bit) here today - sorry about that. Let me back off that whole attitude there somewhat. I've been in sort of a bad mood today...

I'm still unhappy about the election results, and concerned about this country's future (I actually considered the plausibility of moving, no kidding, but Canada's just too cold), but I don't really mean the kind of nasty personal crap I wrote earlier.

P.S. WnotW - I'm going to have to delete your comment tomorrow, as it gives incriminatingly clues as to my identity. Ya dope.
